Clearance
Clearance is the minimum required separation between conductors, attachments, the ground and other objects.
Clearance is the minimum separation distance required by code between energised conductors, communication attachments, the ground, buildings and crossing lines. Vertical and mid-span clearances are set by NESC or CSA and must be maintained in distribution and joint-use design; resolving a clearance violation is a common driver of make-ready.
