Coordinate System

A coordinate system defines how positions on the earth are mapped to coordinates in a drawing or GIS.

A coordinate system (with its datum and projection) defines how real-world positions are represented as coordinates in a drawing or GIS. Fixing the project coordinate system first — and reprojecting every source to it — is what keeps landbase, GIS and CAD data aligned through conversion.
